Home Exercise Programs

Illustrated, step-by-step exercise programs for the most common shoulder, hip, knee and ankle problems Dr. Tannenbaum treats. Each program is based on current research and clinical guidelines, and lists the conditions it is designed for.

How to use these programs

  • Pick the program that matches your diagnosis, or the one Dr. Tannenbaum or your therapist recommends.
  • Start with Phase 1 and move ahead when the exercises feel comfortable.
  • Most programs take 6 to 12 weeks. Steady, regular exercise matters more than doing a lot at once.
  • Each program can be printed from its page.

How much discomfort is OK?

Some discomfort while exercising is normal and safe. Use this guide:

0 to 3 out of 10Safe. Keep going.
4 to 5 out of 10Acceptable if it settles by the next morning. Otherwise ease off.
Above 5, or worse the next dayToo much. Reduce the reps, range or weight.
